Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) in Berlin is one of Europe’s most renowned department stores, known for its luxury assortment and architectural presence. Opened in 1907, the building today offers approximately 60,000 square metres of retail space and combines historic character with contemporary interior design. In the “Women’s Designer Fashion” area on the second floor, the space is defined by a distinctive vaulted ceiling structure that shapes both atmosphere and orientation.

Within this ceiling, XOOLINE IP40 was integrated into linear coves to provide an indirect task lighting layer. Warm white light at 3,000 K creates a comfortable visual environment while supporting orientation and product presentation. In total, around 1.8 kilometres of XOOLINE HD10 were installed, forming continuous, glare‑free light lines that remain visually calm and precisely controlled.

The result is a lighting solution where task lighting is seamlessly embedded into the architecture, combining functional illumination with a refined and consistent spatial experience.

In Breitenburg, Schleswig‑Holstein, near Itzehoe, a nearly century‑old listed building was transformed into the four‑star Hotel Breitenburg in 2021. Originally used as granaries and stables of the nearby Breitenburg Castle, the historic structures now accommodate a lobby, restaurant and several function rooms, complemented by a new adjoining building with guest rooms, spa and wellness facilities. The project carefully combines preserved architectural character with contemporary interior spaces.

A distinctive space within the hotel is the “Bredenbarg” salon, located in the gable of the building and defined by its generous proportions, a five‑metre‑high ceiling and exposed wooden roof beams. Here, XOOLINE IP40 was used to create warm wall grazing light on the rear wall, emphasising the texture and depth of the surface. The indirect, linear light creates a calm, almost fireplace‑like atmosphere and forms a deliberate contrast to the fresh daylight entering the space from the front gallery area. In the adjacent pool and spa zone, XOOLINE IP40 was additionally integrated as restrained cove lighting, supporting the architectural lines while allowing unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape.

The result is a balanced lighting concept that enhances materiality and spatial depth through controlled wall grazing and indirect light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that remains closely aligned with the architecture.

As part of the comprehensive redesign of two Louis Vuitton retail spaces at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann in Paris, the façade was reconstructed in 2024. A defining element of the new design is a structured surface with a continuous three‑dimensional pattern, installed along the perimeter walls and forming a strong architectural frame within the retail environment. The complex metal structure was realised by the German manufacturer MetalVision, while the lighting concept was developed by the Paris‑based lighting design studio Ponctuelle.

To achieve homogeneous retrolighting of the façade element, XOOLINE IP40 was selected and installed in extremely limited space above and below the structure. Using a narrow 10° beam angle, the linear luminaires enable precise contour lighting that evenly illuminates the three‑dimensional surface without visible hotspots or interruptions. The controlled light distribution allows the geometry and depth of the pattern to remain clearly readable while maintaining a clean and refined appearance throughout the installation.

The result is a contour lighting solution that subtly reinforces the architectural structure, using precise, linear illumination to define form and depth while remaining visually restrained within the luxury retail environment.

The properties of the real estate company Vasakronan at Kv. Hästskon 12, Sergelhuset in Stockholm were comprehensively renovated in 2020. The redevelopment aimed to modernise the interiors while maintaining a clear and contemporary architectural language throughout the buildings. The updated spaces combine open layouts with carefully detailed surfaces and transitions.

For the interior lighting concept, XOOLINE IP40 was used as cove lighting to support the architectural structure of the spaces. Different variants of the system, including Static White, Tunable White and RGB, were integrated into ceiling coves to create uniform, indirect light lines. The concealed linear luminaires provide soft, glare‑free illumination that enhances spatial depth and allows the lighting to adapt to different atmospheres and functional requirements.

The result is a cohesive lighting solution in which cove lighting subtly frames the architecture, using indirect linear light to support orientation and ambience while maintaining a calm and refined interior appearance.
