At the underpass of Nordhavn Station in Copenhagen, a durable and efficient lighting solution was implemented to enhance both the visual quality and the safety of this important pedestrian and cyclist route. The design focuses on creating a welcoming and secure environment while supporting comfortable movement through the tunnel.

VarioLED™ IP67 was selected for its robust construction and reliable performance in demanding outdoor conditions. Installed as vertical lines of light along the walls, the luminaires ensure sufficient luminance and a homogeneously illuminated pathway, which is essential for user safety in tunnel applications. Beyond their functional purpose, these vertical light elements also provide a decorative accent, adding visual rhythm and enhancing the spatial perception of the underpass. The luminaires are grouped into controllable sections, allowing them to be switched or dimmed individually. This enables adjustments in response to daylight levels, ensuring energy-efficient operation and a lighting environment tailored to user needs.

The result is an inviting and clearly structured passageway that improves orientation, comfort, and safety for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

London Wall Place is a newly developed destination in the heart of London, offering an acre of landscaped public realm framed by two contemporary office buildings. Designed to reconnect the site with its historical context, the project reinstates original spatial grids and weaves significant heritage elements - including the remains of St. Alphage Church and a preserved section of the ancient London Wall - into a network of gardens, pathways, and multilevel pedestrian routes.

To complement the architecture and landscape and to visually link interior and exterior spaces, a layered lighting strategy was implemented using VarioLED™ IP67. Discreetly integrated along pathways, structural edges, and planting zones, the linear luminaires deliver durable performance outdoors while creating a refined balance of direct and reflected light. Subtle accents highlight materials such as stone, metal, water, and foliage, while soft contrasts of light and shadow enhance textures, support orientation, and invite exploration throughout the site.

The result is a calm and atmospheric urban retreat that elevates the visitor experience and respectfully frames the site’s historic character.

The “Stairway to Heaven,” built in 2007 on the Northern Germany slagheap, is one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks. The staircase, consisting of 359 steps and climbing approximately 52 meters in height, leads directly to the summit and becomes particularly captivating after dark, when the installation transforms into a luminous pathway.

To restore and enhance its nighttime presence, VarioLED™ IP67 luminaires in a warm 3000 K color temperature were integrated into the handrail. Their robust construction ensures long-term outdoor reliability, while the precise linear light guides visitors safely along the ascent and emphasizes the sculptural geometry of the staircase. Initially, only the lower section was retrofitted due to budget constraints, but in spring 2022 the remaining three upper segments were equipped as well. With the complete installation now in place, the staircase once again presents a continuous, harmonious, and visually striking lighting appearance.

The result is a compelling and inviting landmark illumination that enriches the visitor experience and highlights the artistic character of this unique public installation.

With the opening of the new South Entrance in December 2020, Messe Düsseldorf introduced a striking architectural landmark directly along the Rhine. Designed by Düsseldorf‑based architect Jurek Slapa, the expansive roof structure spans 7,800 square meters, rises 20 meters high, and tapers dynamically toward the river. Resting on 19 slender concrete columns, the roof is composed of 94 rhombus‑shaped fiberglass elements above and a translucent polyester membrane below that softly filters daylight. The new entrance creates a generous, welcoming forecourt and forms a fluid transition to the foyer, the new exhibition hall, and the adjacent Congress Center CCD South.

To bring this impressive structure to life after dark, more than 1,500 linear luminaires - each 2 meters in length - were integrated into the rhombus geometry of the roof. The luminaires, designed for IP67 protection and equipped with the latest LED generation, deliver a neutral white 4,000 K color temperature that enhances the fabric’s materiality and reveals its expressive surface texture at night. Their precise arrangement ensures consistent illumination across the entire membrane roof, while the lighting control system enables dynamic scenes and atmosphere tailored to different events. A sophisticated yet plug‑and‑play cabling approach facilitated efficient installation, allowing the complete setup to be completed within only three weeks.

The result is a powerful and highly recognizable lighting statement that elevates the architectural identity of Messe Düsseldorf and creates a memorable arrival experience for visitors.
