Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Flexible LED tapes are indispensable for effective lighting. The efficient tapes do not only inspire indoors with effective light, but also outdoors they are a practical lighting solution thanks to their flexible form and set visual highlights.
The tapes from the VarioLED™ Flex IP67 series, which can be produced in customised lengths, enable planners and architects to break new ground. Applications of any size can be illuminated; streets, paths and gardens become design or orientation areas in the dark. Thanks to a clear polyurethane encapsulation, they are IP67-protected against environmental influences such as water, salt water and UV radiation. The small cross-section, the minimal bending radius of only 30 mm and the high robustness allow the use in almost any application, such as coving, contours, furniture, organic shapes, counters, stairs and backlighting.
The advantages at a glance:

Accent lighting - orientation / rest area
Ropeid is a peninsula in the municipality of Suldal in Rogaland (Norway). The peninsula is home to several small hamlets and a quay for speedboats that take travellers to Sauda and Stavanger.
In 2021, small and large furniture elements such as stools and tables were built from materials from recycled plastic boats from Ryfylke, as well as lanterns and lamps. They now stand as clusters of artificial “mushrooms” in the rest area. In the evening hours, the square is transformed and the mushrooms start to glow, almost to float. The effect was achieved with the VarioLED™ Flex IP67 light line, which indirectly illuminates the undersides of the recycling objects.

Accent lighting - orientation / stairs
In Saitama (Japan), the VarioLED™ Flex HYDRA IP67 was installed below the stairs near the railway station. By illuminating the steps with seemingly infinitely long and homogeneous light lines, this place is stylishly set in scene even at night. The lighting also provides orientation for passers-by.

Contour and accent lighting - University
University College London (UCL) is one of the world's leading universities in London. International architecture and design practice BDP was commissioned to reinvigorate the spaces with lighting, providing users with a modern, comfortable and stimulating visual environment that supports health, wellbeing and alertness. It was paramount that the lighting design offered complete flexibility to adapt to the different events UCL wanted to hold in the spaces.
BDP chose VarioLED™ Flex HYDRA to illuminate the old refectory. A circular cover is used to illuminate the foundation and provide the refectory with a clear daytime and evening atmosphere. The lighting is subtly dimmed up or down to provide energy during the day and a warm atmosphere in the evening. The BDP team used upward light to make the arches visible and give the space a timeless elegance.

Accent lighting - orientation / cultural monument
The “Sächsische Staatsbad” - the cultural and festival city of Bad Elster - shines in a completely new light: with the new “World of Experience and Lights”, large parts of the historical architecture as well as the parks are impressively staged with a unique lighting design at the onset of dusk.
The conception of the modern lighting design has been carried out since 2017 by the lighting designer Ulrike Birnbaum from the “Büro für Architektonische Lichtplanung”. The project created an interconnected lighting network that accentuates places of interest in the Royal Enclosures and connects them in a world of experience full of rich light sounds and enveloping colors.
As the area is home to a large number of natural monuments and listed buildings and is also protected as an entire park, the greatest challenge was to carefully harmonise the requirements of monument protection authorities with the lighting design. For example, the entire installation is inconspicuous by day; neither cables nor luminaires themselves are visible, but hidden in niches and ledges. The VarioLED™ Flex IP67 was installed in many parts of the area.

Cove lighting / tram stop
The “Hardbrücke” elevated road forms one of the most important traffic axes through the city of Zurich. As part of the extension of the first tram line over the bridge, Hardbrücke station was expanded and Hardplatz was redesigned.
The technical installations for operating the traffic over the bridge are housed in the so-called “Widerlager”. The attractively designed Widerlager includes also a shop and a café. The façade consists of folded expanded metal in a golden color, which is accentuated by the light color. The lighting with the VarioLED™ Flex IP67 starts at dusk in white and slowly changes to gold at midnight and then to white again until dawn.
