LED Linear™ illuminates the festival summer in Karlsruhe
Happy faces, appreciative nods, enthusiastic people and a lot of applause, this is the best way to describe the mood of the 40,000 visitors to the big opening show for Karlsruhe's city birthday on Saturday, 20/6/2015. As in the case of the city's founding 300 years ago, the castle was at the center of the celebration. New and revolutionary is the "heart" of the festival summer, located in the castle’s garden: a pavilion, specifically designed for the birthday. With its innovative design language the pavilion forms a delightful contrast to the castle’s historic backdrop.
As the official supplier LED Linear™ has illuminated the pavilion with impressive LED lighting solutions, which were integrated into the beam construction. The absolutely dot-free and homogeneous light gives the pavilion an almost reverential atmosphere. The products provide a high light output, are UV and water protected and offer optimum lighting quality thanks to Japanese LEDs. Thus they meet the demanding design specifications and further requirements for the use in this project. With their gentle homogeneous light the luminaires also conform with the sensitive flora and fauna in the immediate vicinity of the pavilion. The building is attractively illuminated, emphasized in height, structure, surface and materiality and encouraged in its revolutionary character. The architectural sculpture was designed and implemented by the project community "J. Mayer H. and partners, architects and Rubner Holzbau GmbH". The lighting design was taken over by the company “lichttransfer” from Berlin under the direction of Katrin Söncksen.
The festival summer for the 300th anniversary of the city of Karlsruhe is now running until September 27th. For 100 days the city is celebrating its founding in 1715 with over 500 events. The façade of the castle – the most beautiful screen in the world – offers visitors extravagant light shows every evening. To put it in the words of Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann: "From Karlsruhe much new and revolutionary things have always gone out."
