LED Linear™ as a shining example: first endowed professorship at the University of Wismar
Wismar: LED Linear™ is closely connected to the University of Wismar for many years. An important milestone is set now. On 9th July 2015, the agreement on the establishment and financing of the first endowed professorship was officially signed. Thus, the internationally active lighting manufacturer builds a bridge between business and science.
With regard to the availability of expertise many ways are gone to bring professionals to the University of Wismar. With the recent conclusion of the contract on the endowed professorship an essential contribution is done to strengthen the degree program Architectural Lighting Design, especially in the application design. The professorship of the valence state 2 shall be known as "endowed professorship for Lighting Applications in Architecture (Lighting Application in Architecture)" and is limited to five years. LED Linear™ as the occurring endower provides the Hochschule Wismar an amount in six figures for partial funding of the staff costs of the professorship.
CEO Dr. Michael Kramer emphasizes: "For us it is especially important to make a significant contribution to the advancement of research in the field ‘Lighting Design’. The targeted support and training of highly qualified young people is extremely important to us.“
The activities of the professorship correspond to the usual list of tasks and include the implementation of teaching and the acquisition of module responsibilities in the degree programs of the University of Wismar, participation in academic administration, the supervision of theses and the processing of other tasks in the context of studies. In particular the exploration of new fields of application of light in buildings, for example, based on linear LED lighting systems, as well from an economic point of view and the development of new approaches to product and application designs in the field of linear LED products are in focus.
LED Linear™ CEO Dr.-Ing. Michael Kramer, and the rector of the University of Wismar, Prof. Dr. jur. Bodo Wiegand-Hoffmeister, ceremonially signed the contract and gave unanimously to understand that this endowed professorship is a favoring step for both for the completion of teaching activities as well as for the expansion of the marketable LED application spectrum.
