Located in the historic port town of Piriac-sur-Mer on the Guérande Peninsula, Place Vignioboul combines pathways, landscaped areas and small public spaces within the existing architectural fabric. The lighting concept by Rozenn Le Couillard, founder of Noctiluca, was developed to give the site a distinct nighttime identity while preserving its intimate character and limiting unnecessary light.
Rather than illuminating the entire area uniformly, the concept uses light selectively where it supports architecture, orientation and use. Linear lighting along the historic façades gently reveals the texture of the stone surfaces and defines the adjoining pathways without dominating the architecture. Different beam angles allow the illumination to respond precisely to the individual spatial conditions while keeping the overall light level deliberately restrained.
At the Théâtre de Verdure and the smaller square, linear light integrated beneath the stone benches and seating elements creates localized pockets of light. The illuminated stone surfaces provide a soft ambient glow around the seating areas, making them perceptible after dark without flooding the surrounding landscape with light.
ADONIS, operated at a low power of 6 W/m, enables this targeted approach across the different applications. The result is a carefully balanced nighttime environment in which light supports movement and places to gather while respecting the historic architecture and minimizing its impact on the night.
