Situated next to the Oude Maas River, Spijkenisse has a long history shaped by its relationship with the river delta and its infrastructure. A new pedestrian bridge has been constructed in a recently developed residential area, designed to integrate into the surrounding landscape while referencing this historical context.
The lighting design supports both the architectural expression of the bridge and safe use during nighttime hours. Particular attention was given to creating a calm and uniform appearance without disturbing the riverside environment.
The underside of the bridge is subtly illuminated by VENUS True Color 3D Optics. The flexible linear lens follows the bridge’s curved geometry precisely, ensuring a continuous and homogeneous line of light. This approach allows the structure to be clearly legible after dark while limiting light spill into the surrounding area. The result is an efficient and durable lighting solution that meets both functional and contextual requirements.
