The over 200-year-old,  listed former administration building at the Muenster in Bad Doberan (near Rostock) was renovated for around three million euros in a year and a half. Since the end of January 2015, the half-timbered building is now used as a public “House of Meeting, Education and Culture“ by associations and groups. The new lighting concept should offer the right lighting for any occasion and create an authentic light color in the community hall.

The community hall was a major challenge in lighting design, as the light-staging of the light squares, that fit harmoniously into the renovated ceiling construction of the community hall, was in focus  of the planning. Here a variety of different lighting scenes is necessary to support the widest possible variety of events and activities. A community hall, which is used for different events, requires a different light planning as constant events. Light has the task to give each action its own identity and to present them skillfully. The right light color, the authentic reproduction of colors or the compliance with the light sensitivity of sensitive objects are always a new challenge for lighting designers and planners.

The twelve squares in the middle of the hall are equipped with square frames, which are formed from the "XOOMINAIRE" series. Along the walls, linear elements form the conclusion. All luminaires have one indirect and several direct components. The indirect components brighten the ceiling panels deliberately not uniform. The side views of the beams and the edge of the ceiling panels are almost the same bright, thereby the sharp edge is broken. The part of the ceiling, which is lying directly over the luminaire, is at its brightest, while the brightness decreases towards the center of the ceiling panels again, so that the depth of the cartridge and thus the amount of space remain undetermined. This ceiling image supports the festive effect of the hall by day and by night.

The direct components consist of narrow-beam linear downlights in two light colors 3,000 K and 2,400 K.  These two light colors were elected to be able to adjust the light color according to mood and desired brightness. Due to their large number and the arrangement of the linear structures these downlights result in an absolutely glare-free light, despite the relative low ceiling height. Even in high illuminance levels of 1000 lux the users perceive this light as pleasant.  However, this setting is only proposed for daylight supplement for conferences, when the inner area, the center drops against the natural light that enters through the large windows in the room. The downlights are complemented by wall washers in the linear elements along the walls and five so-called indirect wall washers which are used for lightening the faces in the area of the altar / stage and the middle zone - because they are almost glare-free.
